Vegard Forren is a Norwegian central-defender who was born in Kyrksaeterora, Norway on 16th February 1988. Forren began his career with KIL/Hemme, making his breakthrough in 2005. He impressed in the lower leagues, catching the eye in a cup-tie against Molde. Forren was invited to a trial at Molde in a junior tournament. He was rewarded with a five year contract. By 2008 Forren was a regular for the Molde first team and had also forced his way into the Norwegian U21 setup. The left-sided central defender helped the club to a cup-semi-final in his first full season. He improved gradually over the course of his contract, eventually becoming one of the most sought-after defenders in Scandinavia. Forren developed a reputation as a ball playing centre-half, with a great range of passing. The former KIL/Hemme man proved he was perfectly capable in the air too. Forren possess excellent agility, and solid positioning skills. He scored his first goal for Molde a 2009 2-2 draw with Rosenborg.
Forren represented Molde during their 2011 and 2012 title winning campaigns. During that time he rejected a number of big offers from abroad, including one from Club Brugge in December 2011. Forren continued to look good for country too. He made his senior international bow on 18th January 2012 against Thailand. His first competitive outing for Norway came on 12th October 2012, in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland. Forren had previously been an unused sub for games against Iceland and Slovenia. He was rewarded with a number of prizes for his efforts during the 2012 season. Forren was named Player of the Year and also picked up the NISO Golden Ball.
On January 18th 2013 Forren signed for Southampton on a three and a half year deal. A few days before putting pen to paper at St Marys the player was due for a trial at Liverpool. Forren spent the first few weeks at St Marys trying to regain his fitness. The defender played his final match for Molde on 6th December 2012, a Europa League clash with Stuttgart. Forren was an unused substitute for Saints' 3-1 win over Manchester City on February 9th 2013. He looked very composed in his U21 debut against Liverpool at St Mary's, scoring a volley in a 1-1 draw. Forren didn't fare quite as well in games at Arsenal and West Brom, where he was publicly criticised by manager Martin Hunter. He was involved in several first team squads, but did not make a single appearance during 2012/13.
Forren returned to Molde on 11th July 2013.
