Stephen Hunt is an English centre back/left back who was born in Southampton on 11th November 1984. He began his career at Saints, but didn't make a single first team appearance before being sold to Colchester in 2004. Hunt had a nightmare debut for the U's, receiving a red card in a 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield. He battled back and featured fairly regularly at Layer Road during 2004/05. He lined up against former club Southampton in the Carling Cup on 27th October, a match which Colchester lost 3-2. Hunt scored his first and only goal for the Essex side on 25th January 2005 in a 5-0 win over Walsall. He spent most of the 2005/06 season sat in the stands, making just two first team appearances.

In June 2006 Hunt dropped a division to join League 2 outfit Notts County. He enjoyed a decent start, playing in the Magpies 1-0 away win at Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup. The following round County came up against Southampton, only this time Hunt ended up on the victorious side. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw with MK Dons on 24th February 2007. Hunt penned a new contract with the Meadow Lane side halfway through 2006/07. The former Saints man had a successful 2007/08, but struggled with injury the season after, making just 13 appearances in 2008/09. Hunt returned to form in 2009/10, helping County win the League Two title. He was used less frequently in 2010/11. Hunt was loaned to League 2 side Lincoln in January 2011, but couldn't stop the club from being relegated to the Conference, despite netting goals against Cheltenham and Macclesfield.
