Papa Waigo

Papa Waigo N'Diaye is a Senegalese striker born in Saint-Louis, Senegal on 20th January 1984. Waigo began his professional career with Italian side Verona in 2002. He spent three years with The Gialloblu scoring 13 times in 65 matches, before a move to Cesena. A successful two year spell saw Waigo net 20 goals in 71 games. That led to transfer to newly promoted Serie A outfit Genoa on 7th September 2007. N'Diaye struggled for first team action at I Rossoblu, appearing just 9 times during 2007/08 after his Serie A debut against AC Milan on 26th August. 2007 also saw Waigo make his international debut for Senegal. The striker moved to Fiorentina on January 19th 2008 in a swap deal with Antony Vanden Borre. Waigo had a successful start at Fiorentina, scoring two times in his first three matches, including one in a 3-2 win against Juventus. Waigo was soon consigned to the sidelines however, and joined Lecce on loan on 27th January 2009. The Senegal international failed to find the net for the Serie B club in six matches.

On September 2nd 2009 Papa Waigo joined League 1 side Southampton on a season long loan deal. Waigo was already a bit of an Internet sensation with Saints fan who had viewed his unique celebration dance on YouTube. Waigo made his debut for Alan Pardew's side on September 12th as an 89th minute substitute against Charlton. His first goal came in the 4-1 demolition of Gillingham on 3rd October. Waigo made a huge contribution to the club's 2010 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win. He scored both goals in the 2-2 draw against Torquay in the 2nd round, as well as the opener in the 2-2 draw with Norwich in the Southern section semi-final (Southampton won both matches on penalties). He also scored in the 4-1 rout of Carlisle in the Wembley final on March 28th. Waigo's performances in the league were hit and miss. He regularly caused opposition defenders problems with his pace when brought on as a late sub, but was caught offside far too many times. The Senegal striker scored 10 times in 43 matches during 2009/10.

Waigo returned to Fiorentina for 2010/11. He was part of the Florence club's pre season tour of England, and set up a goal against Tottenham. Waigo made 5 competitive appearances at Fiorentina before a being loaned to Serie B's Grosseto on 4th January 2011. He made his debut for the club on 10th January, and scored his first goal five days later in a 2-1 win at Ascoli. Waigo scored twice in 10 matches for Grosseto in total.

On 10th August 2011 Waigo signed for Ascoli. He made his debut four days later in a 3-1 win over Taranto. His first goal came on 30th August 2011 against Gubbio. On 18th November 2011 Waigo scored a last minute winner at Livorno.
