Michail Antonio is an English midfielder who was born in Wandsworth, London on 28th March 1990. Antonio began his young career with Tooting & Mitcham United. He signed for Championship side Reading on 28th October 2008. He returned to Tooting for a month's loan in January 2009, before a second temporary switch, to League 1 Cheltenham in February 2009. Antonio played 9 times for The Robins before returning to The Madejski.
Antonio made his Reading debut on 25th August 2009 in a Carling Cup 2-1 loss to Barnsley. He appeared against the same side just four days later, making his first league appearance for The Royals in a 3-1 win. On October 5th Antonio joined League 1 Southampton on loan for one month. He made his debut in the Football League Trophy against Torquay on 6th October, but it wasn't until an impressive display in the 3-1 win over Oldham on 17th October that Antonio really caught the eye of Saints fans. He proved to be a very shrewd signing by Alan Pardew, and caused all sorts of problems for opponents with his pace and excellent crossing ability. He linked up brilliantly with David Connolly in an FA Cup 1st round tie at Bristol Rovers on 6th November, scoring Southampton's third in a 3-2 win. More important goals followed, including a Football League Trophy semi-final strike at MK Dons. Antonio proved his class against higher opposition when he netted Saints' second in a 2-1 FA Cup win over Championship side Ipswich. He also scored the final goal in the clubs comprehensive 4-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final win over Carlisle on his 20th birthday. He ended the season with seven goals from 41 matches.
In 2010/11 Antonio returned to Reading. He scored against former club Southampton on 31st July in a pre season friendly, as The Royals ran out 4-2 winners. Antonio was used fairly regularly for Reading during the campaign, although he wasn't first choice when everyone was fit. He scored his first goal for the club on October 23rd in a 4-0 win over Burnley. Antonio wasn't selected for either of Reading's play-off semi final games against Cardiff or the final defeat itself against Swansea in May 2011.
On 16th August 2011 Antonio signed with Colchester on loan for a month. He scored in only his second appearance for The U's in a 3-2 defeat at Huddersfield on 20th August 2011. Antonio netted a further 3 goals before returning to Reading in November 2011. He had a brief run in the Royals first team until February 2012 when he joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season. Antonio excelled at Hillsborough, scoring 5 goals which helped the Owls win promotion back to the Championship. One of those goals came on the last day decider against Wycombe on 5th May 2012. He was a star performer for Wednesday once again during 2012/13, before having his season cut short by injury in March.
