James Ward-Prowse is an English midfielder who was born on 1st November 1994. He signed for Southampton when he was 8 years old, despite the fact he was a Portsmouth fan. Ward-Prowse starred for Southampton's U18 side in 2010/11 at the age of 16, helping them to a 2nd place finish in the Premier Academy League, forming a good midfield partnership with Andy Robinson. His form earned him a call up to England U17's in March 2011. Ward-Prowse became a full-time scholar with the club in the summer of 2011, and was given the squad number 30 for the 2011/12 season.

On 21st September 2011 Ward-Prowse appearead as an unused substitute in Southampton's League Cup win over Preston. He made his full debut for the first team on 25th October 2011, putting in a composed display in a 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Ward-Prowse continued to shine for the U18's during 2011/12. He played a key role in Southampton's 7-0 FA Youth Cup win in December. Ward-Prowse was a cut above the rest that night, with a great range of passing. He dictated the play just in front of the back four, and scored a 25 yard screamer in the second half. Ward-Prowse started for Saints in the 3rd round FA Cup tie at Coventry on January 7th 2012. He scored the equalising goal that day, helping Nigel Adkins's men to a 2-1 win. He was deservedly named Southampton's young player of the year for 2011/12

Ward-Prowse was called up to the senior Saints side prior to 2012/13. He was handed his first league start against Manchester City on August 19th 2012 following an impressive pre-season. Ward-Prowse slotted in perfectly at Eastlands, and was slightly unfortunate to drop to the bench against Wigan a week later. He put in another storming display against Manchester United in September. The midfielder never looked out of place in subsequent outings. He went a couple of months without first team action towards the end of 2012. Ward-Prowse played for the U18s one last time in a disappointing 2-0 FA Youth Cup defeat to Everton. He represented the U21 side on a number of occasions during 2013, where he played very well. Ward-Prowse took up the role of impact sub under Mauricio Pochettino. He helped set up goals against Wigan and Sunderland. He had signed a five year deal at St Marys in November 2012.

Ward-Prowse represented England at Under 20 level during the summer of 2013, starting in all three games, with Peter Taylor's side crashing out in the group stages.
